September 4, 2019 Homework Poco Players

Great to see you all today again! We did record class today:

Here are step-by-step directions for moving from rest position to playing position:
Start in rest position.
1 – hold violin out in front with LH on violin shoulder
2 – “flip” violin so scroll is pointing to the ground
3 – land violin on shoulder
4 – chin down (comfortably)
5 – move LH to right shoulder and try to balance over a bed or couch!

Keep working on the bow hold bunnies with pencils. Then add the bow. Remember to refer to my pictures of bow holds in the tabs.

“Up Like a Rocket”
Up Like a Rocket,
Down like the Rain!
Back and forth like a Choo Choo train.
‘Round and ’round like the great big Sun.
Land on your Head, Curved Pinky, Bent Thumb!
Up Like a Rocket,
Down like the Rain!
Back and forth like a Choo Choo train.

  • Review rhythm sheets (clapping).
  • Review violin care.
  • Rest position (being still) and song.
  • Violin hand and bow hand game.
  • Bow “bunny” on a pencil. Can you make 10 great bow holds a day? Shake your hand out between each one!

  • Bow Song (End with “Don’t touch the bow hair!!”)
  • Violin string song.
  • Try playing “Mississippi Hot Dog” on the E string with the bow!
