Welcome Accelerando!

It was wonderful to meet all of you today. It was fantastic to have such a full orchestra with a variety of instruments and to see the great work the students have already done to learn their instruments. Thank you to all the families and older students who helped out today, it is very much appreciated. I am very much looking forward to working with you all over the next school year.
Please do your best to have your students go through all the following spots this week, if possible, multiple times throughout the week. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Accelerando:
 
Practice any spots you feel you need work on in addition to the following:
1st Violins:
Barcarolle: Be Ready to play to at least mm 47
1) Practice measures (mm) 1-20 with repeats (watch out for the new bowing on the repeat)
2) Practice mm 21-43, watch out for for C natural in mm 22 and 26 (low 2), and the switch back to C# in mm 29
Extra Credit: Have the whole thing ready to play with good rhythm, bowings, and pitches
Cripple Creek: Be ready to play all of this next week 🙂
1) mm 21-37 for rhythm. Clap it first, while making sure to say “rest” out loud whenever you see one. After you can clap it well, try to play it.
2) mm 46- end. Watch out for rests.
3) Reminder: the comma (,) in the music means to lift the bow, make a circle, and set it down, all before the next thing you have to play. Practice this by itself when it happens in mm 35
Brave Fires:
Be ready to play at least from 1-26.
1) Note the multiple downbows in the beginning. After each one, lift, circle, and set the bow down before playing the next down bow. Practice this slowly.
2) Say “rest” out loud whenever you have one
3)18-26: practice clapping the rhythm, say “rest” when you have them
2nd Violins:
Barcarolle: Be ready to play until at least mm 47
1) Practice mm 13-20 with repeat. Include counting the rest in your practice. Note the new direction of the bow on the repeat
2) mm 36-43. Watch out for C# (high 3 on G string)  D# (this is played with a Low 1 on D string). Practice this slowly, with the correct bowing (start on up bow)

1) Cellos only: Practice 21-37, counting rests out loud. Watchout for G# ( you will need to shift to reach this)
2) 47-63, watch out for the D# (low1 on the D string)

1) mm 21-37. Basses watch out for shifting
2) mm 49- end. Watch out for rests.
3) Reminder: the comma (,) in the music means to lift the bow, make a circle, and set it down, all before the next thing you have to play.
Brave Fires:
1) 1-9 for rhythm and notes
2) mm 9-18 clap rhythm I suggest saying the following phrase with it “I, can’t wait, to play”
