September 13, 2023 Homework Accelerando

Welcome Accelerando!

All: practice A major scale. Cello should put extra attention to the G# which they need to shift for.
Let’s also focus on posture this week. Everyone should have feet flat on the floor when playing and a straight back. Cellos should have the cello touching the inside of bow knees.

Cripple Creek:
Violins and violas: practice 21-29 for notes. 29-37 for rhythm
Cellos and basses:21-37 for rhythm and patterns.

Russian Dance:  be ready to play all next week. Count the rests out loud as you practice and mark any notes you can’t remember with a pencil. Be especially on the look out for c naturals and c sharps; this piece switches back and forth somewhat quickly.

Brave fires:
Practice slurred section at 26 for notes, rhythm and bowings.

Watch out for the rhythm in the section afterward. Basses, remember you all have a ‘solo’ on beat 3. Mark this in your music and practice playing this with a couple of measures before and after so you feel super secure and confident. Everyone should be saying rest or at least audibly breathing on every rest.

We will run this beginning to end next week, so I suggest trying this at home at some point this week, under tempo if needed.

Barcarolle: find sections with ‘new notes’ and practice the, slowly. (E.g. Low C#, G#, D#, C natural. Mark your music with fingerings and arrows pointing up or down if you are having trouble remembering how to play them in the moment.
