Listening: Every day to Suzuki book 1. (it is about 22 minutes long, your student does not need to be actively listening. Just have it on in the background)
Review from previous semester:
– Clapping Game (mississippi hot dog rhythm)
-Rest and playing position with the violin
-Bow Hold: Feel free to use any of the activities we do in class, or create your own!
1) Thumb is bent (dot should be hidden) and on the silver part of the frog
2) Middle finger is right across from the thumb and touchin where the middle finger dot was today
3) Ring finger is right next to the middle finger (touching the dot on the frog)
4) Pinky is curved and on top of the stick (behind the other fingers)
5) Index finger is resting on the stick like cooked spaghetti
The 100 Bow Holds Prize still stands as well!
-Shoulder bowing- can be with or without a tube
-E string Concerto: 8 Mississippi hot dogs in a row
-A string concerto
-Magic X slides: make sure X is drawn where the index finger meets the hand. Make sure they can see the smily face on the other side of the hand. If all of that looks good, challenge them to keep the fingers curved as they slide
-Pickle Song: there should be a handout with Pickle song and the other fingers songs we will do in Poco and Preludio classes. It has both the lyrics and finger numbers on it.
Be sure to sing and then play on the violin. They may need the parent to assist with one of the hands while the other works.
-Monkey Song:
-Sing
-Play (the parent may need to take over one of the hands at first and that is ok)
-Twinkle Bread part 1:
Mississippi Hot dog each note: A-E-1-E
