Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra Concert
January 19, 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
$25 – $60GRAND FINALES
Cicely Parnas, cello
The great concerti on this concert were the last written by their composers. Profoundly saddened by World War I’s ravaging effect on his native England, Elgar wrote this brooding cello concerto, a lament for a lost world, and it proved to be his last major work. Over two decades later, and in the midst of the Second World War, the Hungarian Bartók fled to the U.S. Here, amidst a battle with leukemia that would ultimately take his life, the composer wrote his Concerto for Orchestra. The opening Dances of Galánta, by another Hungarian, Zoltán Kodály, set the stage for these masterpieces.
